Dr. Akira Shishido is an Assistant Professor of Medicine for New York Medical College and an Infectious Disease Attending Physician at Westchester Medical Center. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and trained in medicine at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. After several years practicing operational medicine in the army with time spent in Honduras, Germany, Thailand, Kuwait, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, he trained in Infectious Diseases at University of Maryland Medical Center. After fellowship he joined the faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University and worked in vaccine development at BioNTech before moving to New York Medical College in 2025. His research interests include vector-borne infections with a particular focus on Powassan virus.
